I only found out about this recently, and its not necessarily the plot that has drawn me to this movie (although it does interest me and I'm looking forward to it now) or the cast (Paris Hilton? lol), I was listening to an internet radio station that I frequent and heard one of the songs, so I decided to do a little research. I really like most of the music from this, but I wouldn't suggest even listening too closely to the lyrics if you're easily offended or weak of stomach.
Anyone know anything else about this?

Tis movie time again >w<.

Tinseltown Cinema in Bristol VA will be playing the second Death Note Live action film on the 15th and 16th of this month at 7:30 pm. This sequel picks up where the first movie left off, for those who saw the last film. For those who didn't it left off just as L and Light first meet each other.

Amber, Kat, and myself plan to go to the showing on the 15th, which is a Wednsday. If anyone would like to go with us, I'll have space left for 2-3 people (probably 3 since Kat's mom will probably take her). For anyone else who'll be going, it'd be great to be able to meet up this time. I'm going to leave very early so I arrive before the movie starts.

Anyway, just thought I'd see who was interested :3.
I will start this thread on a positive note:
One of my favorite voice actors has to be Crispin Freeman. It could be because he voiced Hideki, and Chobits has always been a favorite of mine. He also voiced Kyon in the Haruhi dubs. I just think he is one of the most overlooked, but one of the best English voice actors out there.

I know myself, I seem to be the only one who doesn't see the house below mine despite living here for 28 years. Then last night, we saw a UFO in the late hours of the morning. Yes, a UFO.
Sorry for the lapse in updates, my brain was still on vacation.
Well, we've returned from our second year at AWA and I think I speak for everyone when I say it was a blast. I should hopefully have some of the pictures and/or video from the trip ready for our meeting in October.

That being said, all has not been completely quiet at Anime Kanarazu headquarters and we're all working hard to re-open our doors on October 11th. Pieces of our schedule are still not finalized if you look at the calendar, but rest assured that it is being taken care of.

One thing I would like to announce is the introduction of the Kanarazu Dollars program. This is a participation incentive program for our members that allows you to have an account with us that can be used to purchase any anime related items (DVDs, Manga, AWA tickets, etc). There are various ways of getting these, but the most effective way is to recruit new members.* In order to jumpstart this, we're offering a DOUBLE OR NOTHING event at our first meeting where for each new paying member you bring in that day, you will receive TEN Kanarazu Dollars instead of the usual five.** This is a one time only offer, good for this meeting and no other, so bring as many people as you can and try to rack up the points!

In other news, I apologize for the website downtime last night, as it was completely out of my control and (once again) our web host was at fault. I'm no more happier about it than anyone else, but unfortunately, there was nothing I personally could do about it. That being said, the move to another web host is still being discussed and I'll keep you posted on info about that.

Anyway, that's all I have for now. If you were a member of the planning committees that have been in place for the past few months, please get in touch with me ASAP.

* Kanarazu Dollars are only awarded after the person you referred has been an active paying member for three(3) consecutive months.
** Ten (10) Kanarazu Dollars will only be awarded if the person you refer becomes a paying member that day and waives their two free meetings. If they decide to take their two free meetings, then you will only be awarded the usual five (5) Kanarazu Dollars.
Sooo, what was everyone's favorite part of the con? And what was your favorite cosplay you saw?
I have to say, I just enjoyed running around and seeing everyone dressed up. Cosplaying was so much fun!
This thread is for discussing Full Metal Alchemist the series, movie and its manga counterpart. ^.^

I'm sure most everyone has heard of FMA, if not here is a summary I stole from AnimeNewsNetwork. XD Cause, I'm no good at them.

After losing their mother, Alphonse and Edward Elric attempt to bring her back using the forbidden science of human alchemy. However, alchemy operates on the theory of equivalent trade, and breaking the human alchemy taboo carries a heavy price. Ed loses his leg, and Al loses his body. Ed is able to seal Al's soul inside of a huge suit of armor, at the cost of his arm. Years later, Ed (now with two mechanical limbs) and Al (still trapped in the armor) leave their childhood home, each brother concerned with the other's happiness. Ed, who has a natural talent and skill for alchemy, becomes nationally certified and is soon known everywhere as the "Fullmetal Alchemist." Their true objective is to search for any information on the fabled Philosopher's Stone, hoping it will allow them to regain their old bodies. All of their hopes rest with this mythical stone, which may not even exist at all. However, the brothers soon learn that they are not the only ones after the powerful stone.

I love, LOVE, this series. I would dare say it to be my favorite anime and manga of all time. The story is so touching, yet has action, awesome, and very thought provoking. It has something for everyone to like. I learned atleast something from this series as well, and I honestly think that this is a must watch for any anime fan, in my opinion. I also believe this series belongs in any good anime/manga library. Also, with the annoucement around 2 or 3 weeks ago about the second series, I'm loving it even more. The second series will follow the manga, because the original anime's story is rather drastically different from the manga after so many episodes. ( I don't recall the exact episode. )

It has enough plot twists to keep every episode interesting, despite the fact that there are almost 50 episodes out. Even the occasional filler episodes have substance and usually bring comedy into play.
Has anyone else seen this series? And if so, how far along into the
Feel free to follow up with your thoughts in this thread, but be respectful. If you choose to make this thread your personal political battleground, I will not hesitate to reprimand you.

So I've been reading the Twilight series recently...
At first I was really apprehensive about reading them, because of their extreme popularity and such, but they turned out to be very good! Very absorbant xD.

I was wondering if anyone else had read, or at least heard of them ^.^.

(Btw: Edward deserves to be kicked in the head xD)

Well, we have seven days till we leave and eight till it begins. This thread will be able to let out your thoughts and feelings for it or if you want to point out some interesting info on the con.

I just started the thread so I could point out the series being shown this year....

Claymore – Funimation provides this brutal action-filled fantasy series focused on Claire, a warrior who protects humans from evil creatures called Yoma. Parents be advised for violent content. (Saturday, 8pm, in Chambers)

Ouran High School Host Club – Also from Funimation, we will be screening this English-dubbed comedy about a female high school student who, while disguised as a boy, winds up joining the upper echelon of popular male hosts who cater to females for a fee. (Saturday, 4pm in Chambers)

Sword of the Stranger – Bandai Entertainment will be providing this recent Studio Bones film, directed by Masahiro Ando (Cowboy Bebop). about a swordsman seeking redemption by protecting a little boy and his dog in samurai-era Japan. Parents be advised for extremely violent content. (Saturday, 10pm in Chambers)

I believe I want to watch the Ouran Host Club. I've read the first three volumes of the manga and really like it. This one really caught my eye, so I think I shall enjoy it.

This thread is for sharing the programs that are free or reasonably priced. Please, no hacks or cracks. This thread is for LEGAL free software.

I thought I would share with everyone the programs that I have found. The best as far as free goes is this program:

Open Canvas 1.1- This software was released by Portalgraphics as freeware. Though the newer versions of this software require you to buy them, ver. 1.1 is still free and completely legal. For a free program, it's amazing. It has pressure sensitivity for tablets, multiple layer support, and even has a network mode that let's you chat and paint with others.

The Gimp- Of course, most people use this program because it's free. It has some really nice features and can do all of the standard things that Photoshop does. There are even user-made filters that anyone can make and share. I find that GIMP seems to work best on Linux, but it still does a great job on a Windows machine.

Ok, so we all love the free stuff. But cheap software can also be nice. You feel good for contributing to the art community without your wallet getting too much lighter.

Paint Tool SAI- A very nice and reasonably priced piece of software. For only 5,250 yen (approximately $51.49 USD) you can purchase the full license to this software. The full version is really nice with many features and intuitive menus and tools.

Open discussion about NHK ni Youkoso (Welcome to The NHK) here!

I had no idea what to expect coming into this series the first run. The first few episodes yield no clues as to how the series will turn out. Basically, it follows the life of Sato and his recent development of becoming a Hikikomori-a Japanese term to refer to the phenomenon of reclusive individuals who have chosen to withdraw from social life, often seeking extreme degrees of isolation and confinement due to various personal and social factors in their lives. So basically he is a social failure, and his high school friend who unknowingly moves next door is a huge otaku. The one hope for Sato lies within a young girl named Misaki who tries desperately to free Sato from his reclusive ways. The story then follows the exploits of poor Misaki as Sato frequently reverts into his pathetic state.

The series is mostly comical... but takes some really really dark turns, all while examining the pros and cons of human interaction.
